Yummo

This is the only thing good about being laid up. Friends and family bring you Food!

Not much to talk about, dad is going home from the hospital today with the feeding tube still in! Yes that is What I said! I can't believe it, e said they told him to come back in 10 days. He is a grown man and can take care of himself, but I am sorry that makes no sense to me. Course he wasn't real nice when I called anyway so I know not to ask too many questions. Gotta go take some alieve to see if it will ease my pain. The meds the doc gave me make me too Loopy!

Fall

Here is my last entry for the contest that was canceled. I am trying to get a great new digi kit from Krystal Hartley as soon as I get my paypal account straightened out. No change with my foot, hurts a little today because all the pain meds have gone away. The pain pills they give me make me dizzy and sleepy. Hope to get some christmas cards at least started while I am down.

Dad update/Foot Surgery Today

I took this photo on Saturday, he was reluctant to let me take it, but i told him it was for Sam. He is holding the Get Well card she made for him. He looks so good and they were able to put a feeding tube in late Saturday, so at least he is getting nourishment. They moved him to a regular room yesterday, he is having a hard time with the feeding tube, but sounded pretty Good.

Well, today is the day, I will let ya'll know how it goes, I have to be at the hospital around 10 for blood work (don't ask). I will let ya know how it goes. Wish me Luck

10.27.2008

This is just my Luck!

This is what was posted after I found out I had made it to round 4 of the contest.

I'm sorry to have to do this, but after some online searching this morning, it has come to my attention that there has been some unfair activity going on soliciting votes. This seems to have occurred in all the voting rounds, so it is impossible for me to re-do the polls at this point, as we've moved to far ahead.
As of today, the SYTYCS contest is cancelled. We will try and come up with a new voting system to bring this contest back again in the near future. All uploads to the SYTYCS Gallery have been moved in the Member Gallery. I want to say a big thank you to all who participated honestly, and I'm truly sorry that we've had to end the contest this way, but it was this is the only way I can solve this issue so it's fair to all. Thanks for your understanding.

*I 'm very disappointed, this was the first contest i had ever tried, it was small no real prizes. I thought it would be easier, no real pressure. There are always others I guess.

Thanks for all your Votes and words of encouragment.

Time to Vote

It's that time again -- vote for your favorite submission in Round #3 of YMBD's "So You Think You Can Scrap Contest"!

This week's challenge? Participants were asked to create a layout using a different "shape" (other than the traditional squares, circles, ovals, rectangles, etc) as their main background focus, or backdrop to their photo(s).

Click HERE to view all the submissions, and cast your vote to help us decide who is going to move on to Round #4 (eight more participants will be eliminated this round, and the competition is tough)!

Day 4

Dad Update: He looked really good again today!
I was there when the therapists came in today and worked with him on swallowing. And then to my surprise she said he may be able to swallow some liquids by Monday or Tuesday. HELLO!!!

No one told me he would be in there so long, I was expecting to take him home by at least Saturday, get him straight and then make it him by Tuesday for my own surgery.

I am feeling helpless...................

We were going to visit at 5 tonight and this is what the road looked like. (the pictures where taken from the 6th floor) The 2 vehicles in the back were stalled out and the water was up to the bottom of the boys shorts, they were having a ball and helping push people out of the water. It kept us entertained for a while. Oh and the boys saw us watching waved and then promptly mooned us. Don't Look MOM!!!!

Day 22

HA HA! It really has only been 2 days, but man am I ready to go home. We can only go in every 2 hours for 20 minutes, so we walk back and forth from the hotel to the hospital, they are across the street and quick walk. Nevertheless, it is very tiring. Dad is still doing great, the therapist has been in twice a day to train him to swallow and they say he can go home as soon as he masters the swallowing.

It's funny if you think about it, who thinks about how they swallow, but the flap that covers his wind pipe is gone, so food can easily go down his wind pipe and choke him, he can hardly swallow water at this point. Hopefully we can go home tomorrow.

Hugs from Charleston

Day 1

Hi All,

Mom and I got here in exactly 6 hours, just enough time for us to catch up. Dad looks great, but is really scared. We have to be at the hospital at 6 am, I will let ya'll know how the surgery goes, they told him it should not take long. I think it's the recovery that's the longest.

Hugs from Charleston, SC!

Update:
Dad's surgery went well (5 hours) They removed some more from under his tongue and lasered all around the Epiglottis that I told you about and everything went really well, the doctor was really pleased with the results. They put him in ICU to observe him and make sure he was breathing well enough on his own. Hopefully they will put him in a regular room tomorrow and maybe even go home??!! We will see. XX

10.20.2008

I made to round 3!

Here is the layout that ya'll voted for. Thank you all so much.

I had to rush rush to do one for the next round, because mom and I are leaving at lunch tomorrow for Charleston. It is going to be a long trip.

I did hear on the message board that some people with Mac were having trouble seeing the Vote button. I will let ya'll know when it is time to vote again.

Update

Hi All, Thanks for all your well wishes, your support and sweet thoughts they mean so much to me.

I actually talked to my dads doctor today and got lots more information: Here is what I know.

It seems as though his cancer is behind his tongue locate above his vocal cords near his Epiglottis, they will laser around it and try to get as much as they can. He will be in the hospital a couple days so they they can make sure he can swallow since the Epiglottis is the flap that opens the esophagus so food can pass through when swallowing. It's a flap that closes on the trachea so you do not choke. Then I have to drive him home to Myrtle Beach and get him straight.

Then in 6 weeks he has to go back and get a neck section done, which is where they do exploratory surgery to make sure the cancer has not spread to any other parts of his throat or neck. He will be in the hospital another couple of days. I explained my situation as far as distance and life and he thinks I should be there for that as well. We will see.

That will be 4 weeks after my own surgery so we will have to play that one by ear. And then there's the giant cyst On my ovary that needs to be removed. OH!! and I think there is a Major Holiday in there somewhere!!!

Enough Doctor Stuff:

Please come back tomorrow, YMBD 2nd round challenge will start tomorrow, so come back and vote for your favorite. I will post the link. Hopefully I will make it to the 3rd round and be able to participate.

Love ya'll - Thank You Again

Prayers Please!

I don't even know where to start, not sure if i should try and explain my father or our elusive relationship so I will just go right to the guts. Let's just say I love my dad because he is my Dad, not for the reason you love a Daddy or the man you looked up to your whole life. I have always had my mom as my rock and roll model.

I managed to force a relationship with the hard headed man, and I do love him, it's just really difficult. Oh, and I am his only child, my sisters and I have different dads, in case you were wondering. Sorry to ramble.

Anyway, I got a phone call from him on Tuesday night telling me that he has throat cancer and that they want to operate on him next week and he wants me to be with him! Keep in mind that He will be having surgery in Charleston, SC and I live about 6 hours away! Hello!!!!

Never mind the lady I work with is on vacation next week!!!! and I am having foot surgery on the 28th and I have precisely planned what needs to be done before i am off my feet for over 3 weeks!! HELLO!!!

Then I talked to him tonight, he originally told me surgery on Tuesday, then tonight he says it's Wednesday. HELLO! So hopefully the doctor will call and explain everything to me tomorrow, so I will have a clue as to what is going on. So now it looks like I may leave Tuesday after work.

On a brighter note we had our last night of revival tonight and lets just say it was phenomenal!
Changes are a comin as Pastor John says............

I hopefully if nothing else astronomical happens I will be having a crop at the Bronco Club on November 15th. Mom talked me into it, she thinks I'll need a break by then. I am sure she is right. More info on that to come soon.

Also judging for my "So You Think You Can Scrap"contest on YMBD will start on Monday, I will let you know when the judging will start so you can go and vote for your favorite.

Hope everyone is having a good week. I'm good and I have my Family to take care of me.
Love you Family

A Great Day

We had the shower first today, here is a picture of Deb, Amanda and Ethel. It was really nice, lots of gifts and gabbing. Then it was off to the Burgess party.

These are some friends of ours that now live in Richmond, we had a great time catching up it is just amazing how big the kids have all grown, man it sure makes ya feel old.
These are Mitch's friends from collage that I just happen to be lucky enough to call my friends for over 20 some years. Thanks guys for being such good friends and letting me in the picture even though Mitch wasn't there.

Saturday Schedule

WOW am I busy today........

  • Tumbling practice 9-10:30
  • Pick up cake and corsage 12:00
  • Bridal shower for Amanda 2:00
  • 50th Wedding Anniversary party for Mr & Mrs.Burgess 5:00
and then of course the typical cleaning of the toilets and laundry that needs to be done
Not much just a typical Saturday! LOL

I dressed up this fire extinguisher as a gift It's hard to see, but I thought it turned out cute.
It says around the middle "Never let your fire go out" and matching card.

10.09.2008

Look what we did!

I picked up a roll of cricut vinyl for just under 9 dollars and Samantha wanted this for her room, so we decided on a cartridge font and had it cut and on the wall in less than 30 minutes.

The possibilities with this are endless....................

HAPPY TUESDAY !!

I travelled to Gatesville North Carolina yesterday to help my dear friend Deb move some stuff into her brand spanking new house. It's funny her house plan is almost exactly like mine LOL. It is a beautiful house and I am so excited for her and David. Keep your fingers crossed that the power gets turned on today. 8 more weeks until her daughters wedding! I will be surprised if Deb has an once of sanity left!!

Now the only problem is she is so far into the woods I need a map to find her.
I am so happy for her. XXOO Love you Deb!

Thanks to Amy Sumrall for her woosfunky designs

When I started blogging on 7/5/06 I never thought I would have 500 things to say! I have enjoyed sharing my life with you and getting to know even my family and friends better. I have also learned so much. Recipes, design, art everything and anything can be found on a blog!

I don't openly share with people that I have a blog, I guess for fear of what they might say. I usually wait till they bring it up and then I go on and on about how great it is and try to get then to start one. It made me curious do you tell people you have a blog?

Margie's Challenge/Stacy Julian

Margie Aslett has issued a challenge I think I can handle. Ali's was a little too much for me, but this one I think I can handle. How about You!
So CLICK HERE to check it out
&
“Give Yourself a Present”

I did not realize this was originated from Stacy Julian, also Cathy Z is in on it. Here is a better explanation.

The Challenge

1. Take 10 photos of your life right now... today... no ands, ifs or buts. Grab that camera and document. All day today.

2. Compile these photos into a tiny little mini album.

3. Keep or carry this album with you (in a desk drawer, where you scrapbook or in your purse) for one year.

4. Promise to glance at it every time you stumble upon it or pull it from your purse.

5. On October 1, 2009, you will make a scrapbook page about this experience, but I can't tell you exactly what that page will be about. You'll have to check back with Stacy in one year for the final piece of the puzzle.
